How you can Ace The Role-play Within the Interview We have spent in this industry for nearly twenty years as both a hiring manager and recruiter, I have to say the biggest obstacle I've come across for candidates of experience levels is the dreaded Sales Role-play. Actually C if you have never successfully interviewed for a sales person position, you probably did not know that most companies require their hiring managers to place all candidates through role-play situation. You'll be asked to make a sale from the companys actual products to some generic item that anyone can relate to. I'm able to already see the sweat forming in your brow..

But the Sales Role-play does not have to become that scary if you're prepared and you practice, practice, practice. In the second, or sometimes the 3rd interview, the manager asks you to definitely sell an item to him or her to assess your selling skills. Just how can they hire you if they do not know if you can sell? This is an especially important part of the process for those people looking for work with little to no sales experience. I remember when i worked with a candidate named Paula who was a physical therapist and had never sold anything in her own life. She called me after she aced the very first interview but she was completely freaked out once the recruiter informed her that they would need to prepare for a Sales Role-play in the second interview. To begin with, I told Paula to consider an in-depth breath and I assured her that I is needed her to blow away the manager with her role-play! I taught Paula the Steps of Selling that is critical to understand before anyone can flourish in the role-play. After which I set up several scenarios on her and we practiced everyone one. And guess what? After the second interview, the hiring manager not just said she aced the role-play but she was the best of every other candidate C and some weeks later she got the job! All because the manager knew she was coachable and may sell, even though she had never worked like a sales rep. Allow me to reveal to you a few tips I gave to Paula.

This role-play will most likely come following the manager has asked you regarding your sales process or steps from the sale. (This is why it's so crucial for you to know the Steps of Selling forward and backward!) They're testing you to see if what you have to say is that which you practice.

Most critical is the capability to ask questions and located the customers (managers) needs within the role-play. Many candidates get nervous in the procedure a ask enough questions. Do this and you're simply sunk! The manager doesn't want to bring in help who talks a lot more than they listen.

After the role-play, be sure you ask the manager for an honest assessment of the performance. If you feel you bombed, take the feedback and request an opportunity to do the role-play again. Result in the changes suggested by the manager and you will show that you are coachable and prepared to improve. In my job search resource, I give you one of my favorite role-play stories in regards to a candidate hired at Johnson & Johnson who had been straight from the Army and had never sold anything. He used this method and landed the task!
